The Fairfield History
J.W. and Alice Marriott welcomed family and friends at the Marriott’s Fairfield Farm, which inspired them to create Fairfield by Marriott in 1987.
Located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia
In 1951, John Willard and Alice Marriott purchased Fairfield Farm and fell in love at first sight. Breathtaking views of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the gentle flow of the Rappahannock River and the natural sights and sounds reminded J.W. of his childhood back in Utah.

First Location Opens
Inspired by the pure joy and natural ease of the farm, Marriott created Fairfield by Marriott in 1987 and opened its first location in Atlanta, Georgia.
Global Expansion
In March 2003, the Fairfield brand began its global expansion, welcoming guests around the world.
30th Anniversary
2017 marked the 30th anniversary of the Fairfield brand, with nearly 900 hotels and expansion across Asia and South America.
1000th Hotel Opens
Fairfield opened its 1000th hotel in 2019, making it the second brand in the MI portfolio to reach this milestone. Our properties continue to provide the simple, straightforward, and stress-free experience the brand is known for.
